[edit] TheatreWorks (Singapore)

TheatreWorks Singapore is an independent, non-profit theatre company in Singapore. Its artistic director is Ong Keng Sen.

Established in 1985, TheatreWorks has been instrumental in nurturing professional theatre skills in Singapore artists, and developing the Singapore arts through its various productions and developmental programmes. The company is known for promoting Singaporean writing, with various programmes such as the 24-Hour Playwriting Competition and Singapore Young Dramatists Award.

The company encompasses a Singapore Wing and an International Wing.

Theatreworks' latest work Diaspora, commissioned by the Singapore Government for the 2006 IMF/ World Bank meetings, was reviewed negatively in the Singapore's main newspaper The Straits Times. This led to Ong Keng Sen issuing a strong statement on media and press criticism of Singapore arts.
