The Zoo (Scorpions song)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Zoo is a track from the 1980 Scorpions album Animal Magnetism. The song has been featured on a few of Scorpions "Best-Of" compilations, including Deadly Sting: The Mercury Years, Bad for Good: The Very Best of Scorpions and the box set Box of Scorpions. The song was released as a single in 1980 but had limited chart success, peaking at #75 in the UK, and failing to chart in the United States.

The song references life in the streets, as revealed in the chorus ("the hungry eyes of passers-by on streets we call The Zoo"). The streets of New York City are most likely the streets the song is about, according to the mention of 42nd Street in the lyrics.

This track is unique in the fact that guitarist Matthias Jabs uses a talk box to achieve the modulated sound of his guitar during the solos. It is a memorable sound that can easily be connected to Scorpions.

It is used as the music for New York Yankees' pitcher Mike Mussina at Yankee Stadium.

The usage of a wa-wa pedal is used in a few guitar solos.

This song was covered by Bruce Dickinson on the ECW: Extreme Music album.
