The Yoga Institute, based in Santacruz (East), Mumbai, India was founded in 1918 by Shri Yogendraji, and is spoken of as the oldest organized centre of Yoga in the world.[citation needed]

As a young college student, Shri became an ardent believer in Yoga when he met Guru Pujya Shri Paramahamsa Madhavdasaji. Shri Yogendraji studied Yoga at Paramahamsa Madhavadasaji's ashram in Malsar, Gujrat. In the course of his training, Shri decided that Yoga should be given to a wider audience and made arrangements to leave the ashram and open The Yoga Institute. Shri Yogendraji's efforts earned him recognition as the Father of Modern Yoga Renaissance.
Presently institute is run by Dr.Jaydeva, Smt. Hansaji and Shri Patanjali.
