The Worst That Could Happen is a song with lyrics and music written by singer-songwriter Jimmy Webb. Originally recorded on the 5th Dimension's 1967 album, The Magic Garden, "The Worst That Could Happen" later hit number 3 on the Billboard Top 40 on January 4, 1969 for Johnny Maestro and The Brooklyn Bridge as cited in the Billboard Book of Top 40 Hits. It has been stated that along with "MacArthur Park" and "By The Time I Get to Phoenix", "The Worst That Could Happen" is about a love affair he had with a woman named Susan. [1] The song also appeared on the list of songs list of songs deemed inappropriate by Clear Channel following the September 11, 2001 attacks.
