The World Academy of Arts, Literature, and Media (WAALM) was established by Prof. Mustafa Dorbayani, PhD in February 2005 in order to support, develop and promote Dramatic and Fine Arts, Creative Writing, Poetry, and Literature as well as Professional Journalism and Media Productions.

WAALM offered its first "Persian Golden Lioness Awards" in a ceremony that was conducted in Budapest on October 29, 2005 through which 25 artists and scholars of Hungary and Persia were honored. The 2nd awarding ceremony took place on 27th October 2006 with participants from 15 different nationalities. During the 2nd WAALM Awards, 35 awardees were honoured. WAALM-Persian Golden Lioness Awards is the biggest, most credible and prestigious international Persian awarding body.

The Persian Golden Lioness Awards are conferred in three categories:

  • Dramatic, Music, and Fine Arts
  • Literature, Creative Writing, and Poetry
  • Professional Journalism and Media (Radio/TV Productions, Magazines and Newspapers, and Websites)

The Persian golden lioness depicted by the award statuette is a mystic ancient figure from Persepolis, a legendary lioness with wings which symbolizes power and dignity.
