"The Wolf Is Loose" is the first song from Mastodon's third studio album Blood Mountain. It begins with a short drum solo from Brann Dailor, before the guitars and bass kick in, the song is one of the faster, more thrash metal tracks on the album, and it switches into a melodic interlude before returning to the style of music featured at the start of the song. It was released as the first video and the second single from the album and received moderate rotation on MTV2's Headbanger's Ball during late 2006 as well as some airplay on rock radio stations such as Kerrang!.
