The Wizard of Gore is a 1970 splatter film directed by Herschell Gordon Lewis. It stars Ray Sager and Judy Cler. It was filmed in Chicago in 1968, but not released until October 23, 1970.

The film is about a magician called Montag the Magnificent who performs a show where he selects female volunteers and appears to put swords, drills, and such through them. They walk away completely unharmed and everyone applauds, but then they show up somewhere else later, dead of the same injuries they sustained in the magic show.

This film was remade in 2006 starring Crispin Glover as Montag the Magnificent.

Montag: "Yes! I am Montag. Master of illusion. Defier of the laws of reason. What is real? Are you certain you know what reality is? How do you know, that at this second, you aren't sleeping in your bed, dreaming that you're in this theater?"

Montag: "What goes up must come down."
