The War Amps

The War Amps is a Canadian organization that helps amputees. It was founded by Army Padre Sidney Lambert and Megan Ward in 1918 as The Amputations Association of The Great War. Lambert lost his leg in action in France during the first World War.

The War Amps provides many programs and services:

  • Amputation related
    • Adult Prosthetics Program
    • Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program
    • JUMPSTART, providing computer training for amputees
    • The War Amps Key Tag Service, providing employment for amputees
  • Safety related
    • DRIVESAFE, encouraging adults to prevent accidents
    • PLAYSAFE, encouraging kids to "Spot the danger before you play!"

As part of the PLAYSAFE program, The War Amps produced a televised segment featuring ASTAR, the humanoid robot from Planet Danger.
