[edit] 2007 Leg

The tour was officially announced on January 18, 2007 by Billboard.com and McBride's official website. The tour is in support of McBride's ninth studio album Waking Up Laughing, which was released the week before the tour's opening.[1]

“As exciting as it is to create a new album, there's nothing quite as thrilling as getting the immediate feedback from a live crowd,” says McBride. “I'm especially happy about being joined by Little Big Town and Rodney Atkins. We put a lot of thought into which artists to include on this tour and I really feel like this show is going to be a treat for my fans from beginning to end. I can't wait to get out there on the road!”[2]

The main opening acts for the tour were Little Big Town who stayed with the through August 5 and Rodney Atkins who was with the tour until June 21. Diamond Rio and The Warren Brothers also joined Martina for select dates.

McBride's Waking Up Laughing Tour ranked #49 on Pollstar's Mid-Year Top 100 Tours with a gross of $6.7 million. She was also the top female country touring act of 2007.

On August 24, 2007 it was announced that a special concert would be held at the i wireless Center in Moline, Illinois to be taped for a TV special. It was the first time McBride has recorded a live concert, and the first time the former Mark of the Quad-Cities had hosted a live taping. Martina performed Saturday, Sept. 29, after several days of closed rehearsals.[3]One thousand fans were allowed to attend the September 28 dress rehearsal.

The concert television special aired in March 2008 on the PBS network. A live CD/DVD of the special, Martina McBride: Live In Concert will be released in April 2008.

McBride's 2007 Tour was premiered in front of over 250,000 fans in 52 cities while receiving rave reviews.

[edit] 2008 Leg

The 2008 leg of the tour was announced on October 31, 2007 with 11 initial dates being announced, with more to follow. Joining McBride on the 2008 leg of the tour is Jack Ingram and newcomers Lady Antebellum.[4]. The previous year's opening act Little Big Town will also join Martina for four shows in Canada. A long awaited Canadian tour will begin on March 17 in Calgary and will include stops in Edmonton, Vancouver, Saskatoon, London, Ottawa, Hamilton and Winnipeg.[5]

[edit] The Show

Reviews for Martina McBride's 2007 tour were stellar. During the first leg of the tour, Rodney Atkins was the first on to take the stage, followed by Little Big Town and then Martina. Martina opens the show with her latest hit single "Anyway" and performs from anywhere between 75-90 minutes, usually perform 18-20 songs. Martina sings some of her best known hits like "Independence Day", "Wild Angels" and "Concrete Angel" as well as new songs like "How I Feel" and "Tryin' To Find A Reason", the latter of which she duets with her brother Marty Schiff on.

The stage is a large one and the background is made up of many video screens. Martina's outfit is simple, low-rise pants, sparkling shirt and big high heels.

Rodney Atkins stayed with the tour through June and Little Big Town through August. Beginning in September 2007 the show had an "evening with" setup until January 2008 when the second leg officially began.

So far, the second leg of the show is not much different from the first except for some basic song order changes and Martina has been wearing different outfits every night.

In more recent shows "House Of A Thousand Dreams" has been in the set list. The song "For These Times" was played during the start of the tour but then was cut and did not return until more recent shows as the song is the most recent single from McBride's Waking Up Laughing album. Martina has also thrown in "Over The Rainbow", "In My Daughter's Eyes," "Son of a Preacher Man", and "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and "Stand By Your Man" at different shows.
