The Village, East Kilbride

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Village is an area of the Scottish new town East Kilbride, in South Lanarkshire.

The Village encompasses the oldest part of the town, dating back to before the designation of East Kilbride as a new town.

Notable landmarks include the East Kilbride Parish Church, the old Village School (to be demolished soon to allow for construction of new houses), and the railway line to Glasgow (and path of the former line to Hamilton).

The village is one of the main parts of the town. It hosts many pubs, restaurants, hair dressers, cafes, tanning salons and shops. In the oldest part of The Village there is a cobbled street which is soon to receive a make-over. The Village or "The Old Village", is host to the East Kilbride football clubs, East Kilbride Thistle, home ground. The football club also has its own social club.
