The True Patriot is a political science book written by Eric Liu, a speechwriter and later deputy domestic policy adviser for President Bill Clinton, with contributions from Nick Hanauer, the co-founder and co-president of the League of Education Voters. The book is written in the pamphleteering style of Thomas Paine and presents the authors’ manifesto, ten-principal plan, and moral code. [1]

The authors’ stated goal is to reframe the concept of patriotism and return politics to what it once was: a civic virtue and responsibility that fueled the country’s founders. [2] It was first published in 2007 by True Patriot Network. The book received a second printing in 2008 through Sasquatch Books.
