Incidents in Newry during the Troubles resulting in two or more fatalities:

1971

  • 23 October 1971 - Sean Ruddy (28), James McLaughlin (26) and Robert Anderson (26), all Catholic civilians, were shot and killed by the British Army during the attempted robbery of a man outside a bank in Hill Street, Newry.

1972

  • 22 August 1972 - Oliver Rowntree (22), Noel Madden (18) and Patrick Hughes (35), all Catholic members of the Provisional Irish Republican Army and Francis Quinn (28), Patrick Murphy (45), Michael Gilleece (32), Joseph Fegan (28) and John McCann (60), all Catholic civilians, and Craig Lawrence (33), a Protestant civilian, were all killed in a premature bomb explosion at the Customs Office, Newry.

  • 31 July 1975 - Fran O'Toole (27), Brian McCoy (33) and Tony Geraghty (23), all civilian members of the Miami Showband, were shot and killed by the Ulster Volunteer Force shortly after their minibus was stopped at a bogus vehicle check point at Buskhill, near Newry. Harris Boyle (22) and Wesley Somerville (34), both members of the Ulster Defence Regiment, were killed in a premature explosion while planting a bomb on the minibus belonging to the Miami Showband.

  • 27 January 1999 - Eamon Collins (45) Catholic ex-Irish Republican Army member and informer, killed by a non-specific Republican group (REP). Found beaten and stabbed to death, at the junction of Watsons Road and Dorans Hill, Newry.
  • 09 May 1999 - Brendan (Speedy) Fegan (24) Catholic civilian (reputed to be a drug dealer) shot dead by a non-specific Republican group (REP). Shot while in Hermitage Bar, Canal Street, Newry.
