The Tractors is the eponymous debut album of American country music band The Tractors. Released in late 1994 on Arista Records, it set a record for becoming the fastest-selling debut album by a group to achieve RIAA platinum certification in the United States; by the end of the year, it was certified 2× multi-platinum, and became the highest-selling country album of 1994.[1] The tracks "Baby Likes to Rock It" and "Tryin' to Get to New Orleans" were both released as singles.
[edit] Recording the album
Steve Ripley, The Tractors' lead vocalist and guitarist, co-produced the album along with keyboardist/bass vocalist Walt Richmond.[2] According to Ripley, several techniques were used to make the album sound as if it had been recorded in one take - most notably, the use of Pro Tools to cut and paste the individual parts of the song:
“ |
On a couple of these songs, I... just had a basic idea of the song and didn't really know how the song was going to go, so I played... all the elements that might be a part of this song several times in no particular order until the tape ran off, so I ended up with a 14-minute guitar part. I got to go free-form and experience it like it was the first time I heard it, too, and I dumped that into Pro Tools and went back and cut them together, sort of finishing the writing of the song after I had played.[1] |
