"The Taste of Ink" is the second single from The Used's self-titled debut album The Used. The video was released in fall 2002 and the disk was released on March 11, 2003.

A demo version exists and was released as part of Demos from the Basement, the original demo CD distributed by the band which was then called "Used". The lyrics differ significantly, and the chorus "So here I am . . . " does not exist in the demo.

Both the song and video make it clear that the song is about the band members' attempts to break free of the depressing Utah town where they grew up. The video shows that the taste of ink is the result of frustration—biting down on a pen. It was directed by The Malloys.
