The Successor
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Successor ("היורש" - Hayoresh) was a 2006 Israeli television program starring Uri Geller who was looking for the next mentalist successor.[1] The show is notable because during one segment, Geller tried to move a compass with paranormal abilities. However, video cameras caught Geller with a magnet attached to his thumb to attract the compass needle.[2][3] Geller then forced YouTube to remove the clips that showed the alleged fake thumb, although multiple versions of the video are still available there.[2]
[edit] International versions
- In fall 2007 Geller co-starred in an American version of the show called Phenomenon. The show was notable for the October 31, 2007 controversy when Criss Angel challenged Geller and contestant Jim Callahan to prove they had supernatural abilities.[4] Angel pulled two envelopes from his pocket and said, "I will give you a million dollars of my personal money right now if either one of you can tell me specific details of what’s in here right now."[4] On November 21, 2007, Criss Angel again offered Uri Geller $1,000,000 on the finale of NBC's nationally televised Phenomenon.[5]
- In January 8, 2008 The Next Uri Geller (The Next Uri Geller – Unglaubliche Phänomene Live), the German version of the program, began. In response to the German program, a rival channel aired "Welt der Wunder – Kraft der Gedanken" ("World of Wonders - The Might of the Mind") with guest James Randi exposing all of Geller's conjuring tricks.[1]
- Since January 26, 2008 he will star in a Dutch version of the program titled De Nieuwe Uri Geller.
- The Hungarian version of the show called 'A kiválasztott - Ki lesz Uri Geller utódja?' (The Chosen One - Who will be the successor of Uri Geller?) started to air on March 29, 2008. The judge of the show is Uri Geller. During the show Geller speaks both in Hungarian and in English.
