The Strokes are an American alternative rock band. Formed in New York City in 1999, the band consists of Julian Casablancas (vocals), Nick Valensi (lead guitar), Albert Hammond Jr. (rhythm guitar), Nikolai Fraiture (bass) and Fabrizio Moretti (drums). The Strokes discography consists of three studio albums, one extended play (EP), nine singles, and eleven music videos. This list does not include any solo material recorded by members of The Strokes.

In January 2001, The Strokes released a demo EP, The Modern Age, on independent record label Rough Trade. The large amount of hype generated by the record, especially from the British music press, led to a bidding war among major record labels.[1] The band signed up with RCA Records, and released their debut LP Is This It in August 2001. Helped by lead single "Hard to Explain", the album debuted at number two in the UK and number 33 on the Billboard 200. Is This It was highly-acclaimed by critics, earning a number of accolades including a place on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.[2] The album sold more than two million copies worldwide, and was certified platinum in the UK.[3]

The group released their next LP, Room on Fire, in October 2003. The album did well on the charts, reaching number two and going platinum in the UK, while peaking at the fourth spot in the US. Three singles were released from the album, the highest-charting of which was "12:51", which reached number seven in the UK. The band's latest album First Impressions of Earth was released in January 2006. Although critics suggested the post-Christmas release date was an indication of the band's lower expectations of the record, First Impressions of Earth was the first Strokes album to top the UK charts.[3] Of the three singles issued to support the album, the most successful was "Juicebox", which became the first single by the group to break into the Billboard Hot 100. "Juicebox" was also their highest-charting effort in the UK, where it reached number five.
