Now the most listened to radio programme in Northern Ireland (hence Stephen’s catchphrase “It’s the biggest show in the country!”), The Stephen Nolan Show proclaims to give “power to the public”. Every morning from 9am-10.30am, Nolan tussles with politicians and listeners everyday.
Stephen Nolan has won seven Sony Radio Academy Gold Awards, receiving more awards than anyone else during its 25-year history. Stephen Nolan said: “The show’s success is down to a simple formula. No airs and graces, no polite language, we say it as it is. The people listening to the show have made it into the biggest show in the country and with that volume of interaction they are, in fact, creating clout for themselves."
“It’s clear to everybody that the programme’s continued success is down to the real people in Northern Ireland who bring us, in all their colourful ways, their stories. At times they are passionate and sometimes they are aggressive but they are always exciting and that’s why it is such a thrill to be with them every morning. “And now that we are combining The Stephen Show on BBC Radio Ulster with Nolan Live and a brand new website in April, we will be deepening that relationship even more.”
Stephen has also moved onto a network platform, hosting a three hour phone-in programme on BBC Radio Five Live every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. He has also been voted UK Speech Broadcaster of the Year, and has gained similar success as a television presenter, being voted the Royal Television Society’s Presenter of the Year in 2005 and 2006.
