The Star is a daily newspaper based in Gauteng Province, South Africa. It has a readership of 618,000[1] and is owned by Independent News and Media.
The Star gained worldwide attention in 2006 when it published its survey results. According to this survey, about twenty per cent of South African men have raped a woman in their lifetime.
