[edit] History

The Spirit network is part of the Redwave Media group, which also includes the Red FM and WAFM stations. Currently owned by WA Newspapers Limited, it was launched statewide in the early 2000s as The Star Radio Network after being only a North West network with 6NW Hedland and 6KA Karratha having broadcast since the 1970s. It has since changed its name to The Spirit.

[edit] Programming

Unlike the dominant Macquarie stations, Programming is predominantly based in WA, with the exception of a few syndicated programs such as Barry Bissells Cover to Cover, My Generation and Planet Rock. Spirit also shares a strong news partnership with Radio 6PR Perth who provide Network News updates on the hour. Local Spirit stations also receive twice daily local news bulletins. Comprehensive statewide weather forecasts are provided on the hour. In Cyclone season, Spirit broadcasts warning updates.
