The Space Vampires

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Space Vampires is a 1976 horror novel by Colin Wilson, about the remnants of a race of intergalactic vampires who are inadvertently let loose on Earth. They drain the "life force" from humans, turning them into zombies, and send the energy back to their ship. Some of the humans band together to figure out how to defeat the vampires before the entire population of Earth becomes undead.

A central theme, of a mothership hiding in the tail of a comet to which souls would ascend upon death, was apparently adopted as part of the mythology of the Heaven's Gate cult mass suicide.

In 1985 the book was adapted to film as Lifeforce, directed by Tobe Hooper.
