The Southlanders

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Southlanders are a British vocal group that combines Caribbean style with a South London flair. Formed in 1950 by Edrick Connor and Vernon Nesbeth, the group went through a variety of names, including The Caribbeans, South Londoners, and Southerners, before settling on The Southlanders. Nesbeth remains with the group to this day, where they continue to perform on cruise ships, in hotels and small clubs. The Southlanders' website boasts an impressive feat with the mass media: in the 48 years they have been performing they have never received a bad review.

Whilst their biggest commercial hit was 1958's cover version of "Alone", which sold over one million copies; the song they are most identified with is "I am a Mole and I Live in a Hole" (also known as "Mole", "The Mole" and "The Mole in a Hole").
