The Sound of Madness is the name of the third album by the hard rock band Shinedown, set to be released June 24, 2008. The band began working on the album, after playing several off-date shows in the Summer of 2007. The band began recording in LA on September 20th, 2007. The first single is Devour and it is set to be sent to the radio on May 6. The new tour should start with the band playing a few festival shows before the big release of the new album on June 24th, 2008.

And also Brent Smith said to Billboard.com "It's time to just go over the top, literally go above and beyond what a human being thinks they're capable of recording. We want to do a huge hard rock record that has a lot of crossover potential but also some of the most insanely intense and heavy material that this band has ever tried -- and see if we can pull it off. Smith said the group had more than 40 songs to consider after writing sessions in Atlanta, Nashville and Los Angeles, and it eventually came down to 11. Shinedown road tested the four "potential singles" from the new batch -- "Sound of Madness," "The Crow and the Butterfly," "Second Chance" and "Devour" -the last of which turned out being the single and the first turned out to be the title track -- on a short run of dates it was currently on. More songs on the 11 track album include the band's first love ballad "If You Only Knew" and the melody rocker "Junkies For Fame".

Shinedown have played live Junkies for Fame, The Crow and the Butterfly, Devour, and Sound of Madness. The fans loved these records, but these records will be revamped and will sound different. According to Jasin Todd (guitarist): "It'll blow you away"

The Crow and the Butterfly - (New song on the upcoming album) See Here

The lead single is named Devour and it is set to be released on May 6, 2008. Devour will be the theme song for WWE Night of Champions on June 29, 2008[1]. It will also be featured on the games Madden 09 and Rock Band[citation needed].

On May 6, 2008, the band posted an update on their website that the album (both standard and deluxe versions) were available for pre-order on iTunes.
