The Songstress was Anita Baker's solo debut album, released in 1983 by Beverly Glen Music. This album was a moderate success, which paved the way for a host of bigger things to come; two of the album's singles: "Angel" and "No More Tears" became smash hits on the R&B charts. The Songstress sold close to 500,000 copies.

Elektra Records, a division of Warner Music Group, reissued in 1991.
