The Sniper Game

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sniper Game is a multiplayer game thought to have been originally developed on Usenet. Each round (Typically a day in length), the playerbase votes on whom they suspect is the secret sniper. The player with the most votes is jailed and removed from the game. Meanwhile, the Sniper (chosen before the game starts) chooses a player to snipe each round, and that player is likewise removed from the game. This continues until either the sniper has been caught and jailed, or no players except the sniper remain.

The game has survived in many forms both online and in real life, and organizers of the game have created many variants over time. A common addition for larger groups is the addition of a second sniper (Or a Crazed Killer), to hasten the end of the game. Some games have also added additional roles besides regular player and killer, including players that can save others from death, or players that can leave clues to the identites of the killers. Although waning in popularity on the Usenet, the game is often played in one form or another on many community websites.
