The Smiths is Dead is a tribute album released in 1996. It consists of track-by-track remakes of every song from The Smiths’ 1986 album The Queen Is Dead. The album was released at the height of the Britpop phenomenon and contained covers by many popular Britpop acts such as The Boo Radleys, Supergrass, Bis and Placebo. The album was compiled by the French art criticism magazine Les Inrockuptibles and released to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the original album.
