[edit] Episode recap
Jon, Garfield and Odie get lost on a vacation during a stormy night, and the car blows a tire in front of a spooky hotel. Because Garfield removed the spare tire to make room for a hibachi, they stay at the hotel for the night and are shown around by the eccentric desk clerk (who keeps talking to a seemingly imaginary friend named Maurice).
When they get to their room, they see a plaque explaining the legend of the Sludge Monster, which Jon further details. Garfield and Odie are so worried from the legend that they are unable to sleep, and they decide that they have to attack the sludge monster before it attacks them. When they find an exit to the hotel, Garfield pushes a reluctant Odie outside to keep an eye out for the monster, and he pushes him right into a mud puddle.
Garfield hears all the noise outside and concludes that the monster captured Odie, but then he worries that he might be next. Odie then runs back into the hotel covered in mud, which makes Garfield think he’s the monster. Garfield wakes up Jon just before Odie slurps him, and Garfield then recognizes the slurp as being Odie’s. Jon then washes the mud off Odie, and he begins to scold both of them until he decides to just check out of the hotel. After they drive off, the clerk asks Maurice why guests keep leaving, and Maurice finally appears (as a sludge monster) and suggests that the hotel should offer cable TV.
[edit] Goofs
- Jon sees the plaque about the legend of the sludge monster and concludes that it “must be an old folk tale”, as though he’d never heard of it. But immediately afterwards, he explains the tale to Garfield and Odie like he’d known about it all along.
- At the end of the episode, Jon appears to drive away normally from the hotel on his supposedly flat tire.
- In the car,Garfield only puts on his raincoat cap on and comes out of the car added with a raincoat. When Garfield comes in the
hotel, the raincoat and rain hat have vanished.
- Even if the door didn't close by itself, the three would have still left the door open.
