The Sketchersons
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Sketchersons are a sketch comedy troupe in Toronto, Ontario. They are winners of the 2007 Canadian Comedy Award for best Sketch Troupe[1], an award they had been nominated for each of the 3 years prior.
They run the weekly Toronto show Sunday Night Live, which is modeled after the Saturday Night Live TV show on NBC. The show began in early 2004 at The Poor Alex Theatre on Brunswick Street at Bloor Street, then moved across the road to The Brunswick House bar after The Poor Alex closed in 2005. From January 2007 to December 2008, the group had a successful run at the Diesel Playhouse. Hosts from that year included Toronto Mayor David Miller, Canadian Idol Ryan Malcolm, members of The Barenaked Ladies and Toronto Argonaut John Avery amongst others. Since January 2008, Sunday Night Live has been on hiatus as the show's new, permanent venue is under renovation. Members of the troupe remain active in Toronto's comedy scene and can be seen at various shows around the city.
