The "Silly Point" is a web-based cricket community featuring hosted services such as a members only discussion forum and a blogsite. It takes its name from the attacking field position on a cricket pitch, the silly point[1].

Contents

[edit] The "Silly Point"

It is a community created by amateur cricketers and cricket enthusiasts. It aims to bring together cricket lovers from across the globe to share their passion for the game.
Initially formed by and for posters of the discontinued BBC Test Match Special Board. It has slowly grown in a year to register members from all over the world. It now has members from every ICC full member cricket playing nation.

[edit] Bulletin board:

"Silly Points" is the community's bulletin board. It is set up as a journaling scrapbook of cricketing incidents and news from all playing nations. Every member has the freedom to add to each topic their own comments, thoughts and opinions. The forum From beyond the Test world is dedicated to discuss news and cricketing events solely from the Associate and the Affiliate member nations.

[edit] Blogspage:

the "silly points" is their multi-author cricket-only blogsite. The blogspage is active and is known for publishing articles on varying topics. It is one of the few blogsites that has been accepted as a "Related Site" by:
1. BBC Sports Text Match Special[2] - the first non-BBC blogsite that was included on the list.
2. As a Blogger Friend of Rambhai[3] - an independent Indian news and blogs portal.
3. Rediff Cricket - List of Blogs [4]

[edit] Webpages:

It has built its own webpages centered on the discussion board, to bring the latest news and information from the world of cricket on to a single sit. The webpages present recent cricket news as RSS headlines, weather forecasts for all testmatch venues and international cricket fixtures in a calendar format. The "Sillypointer" is a cricket-only searchengine. The website has its own page for live text commentary powered by cricbuzz.com. Along with live commentary and scorecards, it features news, squads, match previews, highlights and graphs.

Position of the Silly Point on the cricket pitch

[edit] The ethos:

The spirit of a 'silly point'.

Silly point[5] is one of the closest fielding position to the batsman and requires focus, anticipation, and quick reflexes; but above all great courage.

The site is managed by a team of administrators, organisers and weblog editors. The site rules are based on Article 19 and promises Freedom of Expression to all. No comment, article or blog is edited or censored without information or consent of the author.
The forum relies on each of their members to moderate their own messages and breaks the tradition of appointing moderators. Instead they have created Organisers. They are an extended role of the traditional moderators, and includes the responsibility to bring news, facts and statistics; to initiate and to catalyse positive discussions.
It is virtually a spam free zone. The members' list is not inflated with any spam registrations.
