[edit] Plot summary

In The Sight, it is revealed that StarClan has sent Firestar a prophecy that he has kept secret for several seasons: There will be three, kin of your kin, who hold the power of the stars in their paws. In the prologue, Firestar realizes that that the three kits of Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw are the three prophesized cats. Jaykit, one of the three kits, is blind. Early in the story, the three kits go on a fox hunt and must be saved. Jaykit is injured while Hollykit and Lionkit get a severe telling off from Firestar and their parents. During their punishment, Hollykit decides she wants to become a medicine cat. The three kits become apprentices and Jaypaw is trained as a warrior by one-eyed Brightheart, but finds his blindness a major obstacle. Hollypaw also has trouble with being a medicine cat.

Hollypaw and Lionpaw go to a Gathering. In the middle of the Gathering, Graystripe returns with a kittypet called Millie. Meanwhile, Jaypaw encounters Tigerstar and Hawkfrost in a dream. They tempt him with fighting power. A StarClan cat named Spottedleaf retrieves him and tells him he must become a medicine cat. Jaypaw trains as a medicine cat while Hollypaw takes the path of a warrior with Brackenfur as her mentor. Hostilities raise between the Clans over cats not born in the Clans. At the next Gathering, a Clan "Olympics", during which friendly competitions between the Clans occur, is proposed by Squirrelflight to try and solve the problem. During this "daylight Gathering", Jaypaw saves Lionpaw and a WindClan apprentice (Breezepaw). Concluding the novel, Jaypaw learns through a dream of StarClan's prophecy.

[edit] Talents

  • Jaypaw - is exceptional at mastering his blindness. He is also very suited to be a medicine cat, partly because of the fact that his blindness tends to sharpen his other senses. He can also enter other cats' dreams at will.
  • Hollypaw - is an excellent fighter, has a great understanding of the Warrior Code and is good at thinking up battle plans.
  • Lionpaw - has excellent hunting skills.

[edit] Critical Reaction

The Sight quickly mounted #1 on all major sales charts, including the New York Times Bestseller List.[3] It was recommended as Children's Summer reading by the Washington Post Children's Book Club.[2] Booklist gave a positive review, calling the novel "enticing" for readers.[4]
