[edit] Plot

It is two weeks until the Nichol/Cooper wedding and Kirsten is flipping out. She just received the invitation and shows it to Seth and Ryan at breakfast. Sandy is coming around however, as he finds the offer Caleb made to him and Jimmy for the Balboa Lighthouse restaurant, quite generous. Breakfast is interrupted by a phone call. Sandy answers it, and it is Theresa, who asks Sandy not to tell Ryan it's her. She asks that Sandy come to meet her at her new job, the Balboa Bakery, where she'd like to ask him a legal question. He agrees.

Later in the day, at the office, Julie asks Kirsten to throw her a wedding shower. She also appoints Kirsten as her Maid of Honour. Kirsten is secretly disgusted by both jobs. At school, Marissa gets a message from Caleb that he wants her to help Kirsten with the shower. She'll do it, but not happily. Meanwhile, Seth is disgusted with how "cute" Ryan and Marissa are now that they are back together. Summer gets a call from her father, who reminds her of their dinner date that night. Seth has never heard anything about Summer's father, Neil, but it turns out Summer and he are "best friends". Seth invites himself to dinner and vows to win her father over.

At the bakery that afternoon, Sandy meets with Theresa, and he sees that she has a black eye. It turns out that Eddie hit her after losing his job and going crazy with stress. Theresa wants to know what will happen to Eddie if she presses charges. Sandy tells her that anything could happen, from filing a restraining order to jail time. Sandy also urges her not to marry him if he treats her this way. Back at the Cohen's, Summer tries to prepare Seth for lunch with her father. She tells him to eat meat, and sit under light. She tells him not to worry about anything, she likes him, so he will like him. Over at Jimmy's, Marissa walks in on he and Hailey sitting closely on the couch. Jimmy admits to Marissa that he and Hailey are together, to which Marissa says she is happy for them.

At the Cohen's the next day, Marissa arrives to help Kirsten with the shower preparations. Marissa runs into her mom, and coldly tells her she is there to help Kirsten, not her. After Julie leaves, Kirsten asks Marissa to call some family members to be at the shower. Marissa plots to call her Aunt Cindy, who is not one of Julie's favourite people. Over at Jimmy's, Caleb pays him and Sandy $2.5 million for the Balboa Lighthouse.

Back at the Cohen's, Cindy shows up, and runs into Julie, who is not happy to see her. At lunch, Seth is a nervous disaster in front of Neil and Summer is embarrassed. And back at the Cohen's doorstep, just after Jimmy and Hailey decide not to tell everyone about their relationship, Julie and Kirsten open the door and catch them arm in arm. To cap off the day, Ryan and Marissa run into Theresa at the bakery when they go to pick up the cake. Ryan is not amused by Theresa's current state.

While Ryan reels from discovering Theresa's abuse, on top of finding out Sandy knew about it and didn't tell him, Sandy attempts to fix things. Kirsten talks him out of going to Chino to speak to Eddie, and convinces him to try and patch things up with Ryan and Theresa. When Theresa stops by the Cohen's Ryan tells her she should have told him. She tells him he'd have tried to kill him. Ryan tells Theresa she can't stay with Eddie, but she jokes that she can always take self-defense classes, as she is tired of crying. Inside, Marissa invites Theresa to the shower, but is obviously not happy to see her in Newport.

At the shower, Marissa finds herself being comforted by Theresa, of all people, about her insecurities where Ryan is concerned. Cindy makes Julie's life a living hell when she instigates a game called "How well do you know them?" Cindy reveals certain trashy bits of information about Julie in front of all of Julie's society friends. When Ryan finds Theresa and Marissa in the food tent, Theresa gets a call from Eddie, and Ryan flips out. Theresa tells him that Eddie has hit her before, and then Ryan takes Marissa's car keys and takes off, ignoring Sandy's parking lot pleas to think things over before doing something rash.

Back at the shower, Jimmy tells Kirsten that he is actually happy with Hailey, and she lays any worries about how Hailey might treat him to rest. Julie finds out that the reason Cindy is so bitter is because she left her in Riverside for the glamorous life. Later, Seth finds Summer, who has been avoiding him. She has some bad news for him. It turns out her father really, really didn't like him, and even after Seth gives a speech about how that doesn't matter, and that all that matters is that they loved one another, Summer walks away from him. Devastation.

At the Mermaid Inn, Ryan meets Theresa at her room and tells her he didn't go to Chino. He questions why she returns to the abuse. He asks her to break free and move to Newport. She refuses, saying her life is in Chino. But, Ryan tells her that nothing will get better in Chino. She may think twice. Ryan brings her back to the Cohen's, where Theresa will stay for a while. Kirsten and Sandy are just happy to see Ryan didn't do anything silly. The night ends with Ryan apologizing to Marissa at the pool, for not being there for her at the shower. She says it's fine, and that she thinks they will be O.K.
