The Shoppes at Buckland Hills
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Shoppes at Buckland Hills, formerly known as Buckland Hills Mall, is a shopping mall located in Manchester, Connecticut. The Shoppes At Buckland Hills is the center of a critical mass of retail in one of Connecticut's fastest growing trade areas.
Buckland Hills Mall opened in March of 1990. The area of land was purchased from "The Red Rock Golf Course," a local golf course. A multi-million dollar renovation and expansion of the shopping center was completed in October of 2003, and its name changed to The Shoppes at Buckland Hills.
The main building is 1,180,000 square feet (110,000 m²) large. It is comprised of two floors, and has an ever increasing number of vendors. However, the name "Buckland Hills Mall" can informally refer to the mall plus the cluster of surrounding retail stores, hotels, and restaurants on the hill, totaling nearly 6,000,000 square feet (560,000 m²) or 1/4 square mile. Just to the south is Cinema de Lux (formerly Showcase Cinemas), a 19-screen movie theater housed in a former Builder's Square store. Just to the north in South Windsor is The Shops at Evergreen Walk, a new outlet center with mostly high-end brand stores.
There are approximately 145 shops and eateries in the mall, as well as five anchor stores, including: Macy's, J.C. Penney, Dick's Sporting Goods, Sears and Barnes & Noble. In 2006, Newbury Comics opened its first Connecticut store inside the mall.
The Shoppes at Buckland Hills are located off I-84, near the intersection of
I-291.
The mall's slogan is Welcome to the mall, Mom, one of the major slogans used by the mall's owner, General Growth Properties.
