[edit] Characters
[edit] Tigs
Tigs is an orange tiger, who is often portrayed as confident and big headed. She is extremely lively and always gets the starring role in the short plays or poems the group act out in between rounds. She has a lucky object called Mr Cheese - a plastic lump of cheese that squeaks when you squeeze it.
[edit] Mukka
Mukka is an extremely hyper active purple monkey, who has a lucky object called Fluffy Stuff.
[edit] Dogsby
Dogsby is the most sensible member of the group, and usually stays quiet and calm in most circumstances. Dogsby's lucky object is a purple and yellow hat named Lucky Hat, which Dogsby never wears as if he wears it he 'might get too lucky!'
[edit] The Alarmorama
The Alarmorama is a machine situated on one of the walls in the living room. It has many functions, including:
- Choosing the 'quizzer' - the person who asks the questions for that particular edition of the show
- Playing the quizzer's song
- Indicating the starts of rounds
- Handing out the Shiny's and the SuperShiny to the viewers at home
- Indicating the end of the show
[edit] Overview
There are three rounds in the quiz, each with a video the contestants watch before answering the two questions. The aim of the game is to answer as many questions right as possible, and beat the other player. For each question you get right you can 'give yourself a shiny'. The person who answers the most questions correctly wins the SuperShiny.
In between the three rounds, the characters act out a story or play loosely based around the theme of the videos the quiz is based upon. Some of the dialogue in these sequences carries on at two levels, which makes The Shiny Show one of CBeebies' more entertaining shows for parents.
[edit] Shinies
A 'shiny' is a silver object, usually wrapped in foil. The shinies featured in the show include:
- Shiny bone - A bone shape wrapped in foil which is Dogsby's favourite shiny.
- Shiny block - A cube with shiny paper wrapped around it which is Mukka's favourite shiny.
- Shiny spoon - A normal stainless steel dessert spoon which is Tigs' favourite shiny.
- Shiny hairy pencil - A pencil covered with reflective paper which has strips of the paper emerging from the top of the pencil (the "hair")
- Shiny sausage: a sausage shape wrapped in foil
- Shiny ball: a translucent bouncy ball with glitter inside.
[edit] Trivia
The show is said to have 2 series, but there are 3 different times when the show takes on a different appearance, and changes have been made. All three 'phases' have a different theme tune, and the voices of the characters are somewhat different.
On the first phase, Tiggs has an incredibly squeaky voice, but then in the second phase, her voice is much more normal. Then, in the third phase it has completely changed into a much clearer and softer voice.
- The Alarmarama changes between phase two and three
- All songs are re-recorded at least once.
- The scoreboards change 3 times throughout the 2 series.
- The addition of another view of the lounge was created after a few editions, for the three characters to play in between the quiz rounds.
- The puppet of Tigs has changed throughout the 2 series, starting with the red and orange rather flat faced blur to the new bright orange tiger.
- In the theme tune, the Alarmorama is referred to as 'Armorama' in the line 'Armorama, please tell me - who's the quizzer going to be?'
