[edit] Plot Synopsis
The film opens in 1960s Romania with the bearded and high-socked Count von Helsing (John Karlsen) in a cave reading an account of a murderous witch who lived in the area 200 years before. Then, in a flashback, we see the witch being attacked by villagers who attach her to a dunking-chair by impaling her on a spike, and dunking her. As she dies, she swears to return one day to revenge herself upon the descendants of those who have killed her. The film then cuts back to "present day" Communist Romania where an attractive British couple, Veronica and Phillip (Steele and Ogilvie) are vacationing. The couple stop at an inn (run by a questionable innkeeper with predelections for voyeurism, pornography, and rape) and meet von Helsing. The next day, the couple lose control of their car and drive into the lake where the witch was killed 200 years before. When Veronica emerges from the lake, she is transformed into the witch. For the remainder of the film, Phillip and von Helsing combine forces in an attempt to defeat the witch and restore Veronica. To do this, they must face not only the witch herself, but also the innkeeper and a trio of inept Romanian policemen.
