The Sessions are an indie-rock band from Vancouver, Canada. The band is made up of Josh Abel (vocals, keyboards, guitar), Tristan Martin (guitar, vocals), Martin Kottmeier (drums, vocals), and Tobias Jesso (bass, vocals). Formed in 2005, the band is heavily influenced by the disco of the 1970s, the post punk of the 1980s, the brit pop of the 1990s, and modern day indie rock and electro.
The band recently made international headlines as the first North American band to win the prestigious Emergenza Music Festival “Best Up and Coming Band” award, beating out over 8,000 bands worldwide.
The band are currently in the studio recording their debut EP and eventually, full-length album with legendary producer Bob Rock (Metallica, The Cult, The Tragically Hip).
In May 2008, the lead singer of the band, Josh Abel, left The Sessions according to his own statement.

[edit] History
After leaving his phone number for Tobias Jesso on a Little Caesar’s pizza box (where Jesso worked at the time), Tristan Martin contacted his friend and previous band’s drummer, Martin Kottmeier, to help form a new group. Jesso would eventually do the same and invited his friend and previous band's guitarist, Josh Abel, to join the group. Along with a friend of Martin’s, the five-piece began to jam under the band name Hello Dolly. Due to creative differences, however, the group would only last for a half year which lead Abel, Martin, and Kottmeier to form a new band (The Sessions). Originally on the bass guitar, Abel made the switch to vocalist/guitarist (and eventually keyboardist) and the band recruited Hello Dolly bassist Jesso to complete the line-up. The four would play their first show in September 2005 at Vancouver’s Piccadilly Pub.
