[edit] History
A self taught musician, Luis has loved music ever since he was a child. "I didn't know it was abnormal to dance in front of the cat to Michael Jackson at 8," he laughs, "but I just loved the music." The pop influences are obvious today. Luis writes everything for The Secret Handshake in his room - alone with just his Wurlitzer piano and Apple computer.
In November 2004, The Secret Handshake announced its first, self-released, full length release titled "Antarctica". The single, "The Glitch", was featured on a Drive-Thru Records/PureVolume Compilation titled "Bands You Need to Know," which received worldwide distribution. Less then a year later, The Secret Handshake released an EP entitled "This Is Bigger Than You and I" through Doll House Recordings. The EP received worldwide distribution and is available on iTunes.
For his latest release, One Full Year, Luis Dubuc worked closely with producer Cory Kildruff from the Rise, and wrote over 20 demos. Whenever he wasn't working on the album, he was busy touring nationally - playing to new fans from California to Canada. He sometimes adds a full band to his live shows, and they have been known to turn any rock show into a dance party.
In December, The Secret Handshake released a special Christmas song titled "Xmas in Cali", which was posted on his MySpace. It was offered as a free download, then later taken off.
In February 2008, Fearless Records announced its latest addition to their "Punk Goes..." series, Punk Goes Crunk. On February 14, the tracklisting was announced on AbsolutePunk.net, which listed The Secret Handshake's cover of Skee-Lo's "I Wish" as #3 on the compilation. Punk Goes Crunk hit stores on April 8. Other artists that are to be on the compilation include: Forever the Sickest Kids, The Maine and All Time Low.
In May 2008, UK Deathcore group Bring Me The Horizon announced that Luis Dubuc has been a guest musician on song/s for their upcoming album, Suicide Season, which will be released on September 22, 2008. On Luis' myspace page there is an image showing brand new songs in his itunes, with the album title being "I Am The Truth", this is probably a glimpse into his new album.
