[edit] History
[edit] WIOD (2001-2002)
The show began in October 2001 on Miami's local news-talker WIOD, in the afternoon drive slot. During this post-9/11 period, radio was scrambling for more national news and talk programs, which helped jump-start the careers of hosts like Glenn Beck. During the 2001 months, Schnitt continued to do the Miami talk show out of a studio at Tampa's WFLA radio station.
[edit] WFLA and syndication (2002-)
In 2002, WFLA's afternoon personality, Glenn Beck, was picked up by Premiere Radio Networks for national syndication in mid-mornings. WFLA moved the Beck show from 9 a.m. to noon, and Schnitt was given the afternoon drive time slot on his own flagship station. Since then, Schnitt has continued to deliver strong numbers and listeners for WFLA, and even WIOD. Early on, the show was played on WSRQ in Sarasota and Bradenton, Florida, while it was a simulcast of WFLA, as well as WFLF in Orlando, and later WOAI San Antonio. WFLF dropped the show in 2003, much to Schnitt's chagrin. Schnitt himself claimed the station's management wasn't happy with the show, and particularly didn't like his constant use of the word "assclown." It has not returned to local Orlando radio since. WOAI carried the show from 2003 to the end of 2005, when Schnitt was replaced by Sean Hannity. In 2004, WMAX in Atlanta picked up the show, giving the show its strongest market, but it was dropped after seven months.
2006 saw affiliate growth with Charleston, South Carolina's WSCC, Extreme XM on XM Satellite Radio, and WERC in Birmingham, Alabama. 2007 brought aboard gulf coast stations WBUV and WFBX. During the summer and fall, Schnitt keeps hurricane coverage on his priority list, usually bringing on commentators from local TV and radio outlets. This has made his show appealing to radio stations on the southeast coastlines that are prone to hurricanes.
[edit] Jones Radio signs the show
After nearly a decade of Schnitt's home station syndicating the show, Jones Radio Networks signed the show to syndication. Todd claimed on the air that the deal itself took nearly a year to negotiate. Jones Radio now sells and distributes the show nationally via satellite, after launching it on 2008-04-28. All affiliates were retained.
Due to the show's afternoon drive time slot and news-talk format, Schnitt tries to stay on top of breaking news and uses the Fox News alert sound byte when news breaks. The show often follows an open-line format. Callers are not required to talk about the topic at hand, although it is often preferred. The show's opening theme song (i.e., "It's Time for the Schnitt Show") is based on SR-71's "Right Now".
[edit] Affiliates
Since Jones Radio does not actively update Schnitt's affiliates, this list is updated as timely as possible. As of 2008-05-15, there are 12 markets that the show is being broadcast in. The show originates from WFLA in Tampa, Florida, weekday afternoons from 3PM to 6PM eastern time.
