The ScapeCast is a fan produced podcast that provides news, analysis, discussion, interviews and parody concerning the television series Farscape. It is the winner of the 2006 Parsec Award for Best Fan Podcast and can be heard biweekly through iTunes subscription, RSS feed, or direct download from the ScapeCast website.
The ScapeCast was created in early 2006 by new-media aware fans of the television series Farscape. The idea behind the podcast was to provide a way to keep the memory of Farscape alive as well as provide a resource for new Scapers who found the program in syndication. To this end, the cast and crew of the podcast, in addition to various freelance authors and voice artists, provide:
- Analysis of the Farscape universe (its stories, characters, races, places, and technology)
- Discussion of Farscape by the ScapeCast cast and crew as well as fans "on the street"
- News about Farscape, its cast, crew, and fan campaigns
- Trivia
- Parody (such as the regular Tralk Talk segment that defines Farscape slang with humorous comedy skits)
- Live recordings from conventions and fan gatherings
The original crew consisted of Kurt Armbruster, Kevin Bachelder, Brent Barrett, and Nicola Wood. These four soon put out an open casting call for a co-host and additional talent. Before the first episode was produced, Lindy Rae joined the team as co-host, and Kimberly Thompson and Wendy Hembrock joined to help voice segments of the show. After the show had started, Sammy Mohr was brought on to assist in editing and Hank Shiffman joined to offer his talented voice to the mix.
