The Saratoga Dew
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Saratoga Dew is a thoroughbred race for horses open to fillies and mares aged three and up. It's run in the last week of the Saratoga meet in Saratoga Springs, New York at one and one/eighth of a mile on the dirt. This ungraded stakes offers a purse of $65,000. Though not restricted to New York bred horses, this is not an open race: it is considered a race on the New York bred schedule.
The race, in its 5th running in 2008, is named after Saratoga Dew, the first New York-bred to earn an Eclipse Award. She won it in 1992 by becoming the Champion Filly of the Year by winning the Grade I Beldame Stakes and the Grade I Gazelle Handicap. In the Grade I Alabama Stakes she lost by a nose to November Snow. The only other New York bred to win an Eclipse is Funny Cide who won the Champion Colt of the Year in 2003.
