The SOLD Project is a grassroots movement dedicated to exposing the truth behind child prostitution through multi-media and the collaborative response of individuals striving to make a change. It was started by [Rachel Sparks], a young activist, in 2007 who felt moved and compelled to make a difference in the lives of children being affected by the damage of human trafficking. Her desire to do justice, empower others, and raise awareness is strong and thus the SOLD project was created. Rachel's vision is:
"I do not believe The SOLD Project is the answer to this complex issue of child prostitution. I do, however, choose to believe that we are doing our small part to inspire others to do theirs. Our film will break your heart, but my hope is that it takes you beyond the pain to a place of inspiration and empowerment. You possess the skills, resources, and heart to do something, to fight for these children, and to bring hope and restoration into a world full of darkness."[1]
The project's desire is to finish a documentary film by the end of 2008 and begin to tour the United States focusing on the the twenty something generation. The film focuses primarily on Thailand and the stories of children who are sold by the sex trade industry therein. The money raised through the project will help aide children with their education where they were once not able to pay.
The project is still being formed and awareness is still needed. Child Sex Trafficking is a complex issue. There is not one reason why it exists, therefore there is not one action that will bring it to an end. However, a better understanding of the issue is one way to contribute. Learn It through books, movies, articles, and searching the Web. Children are known to be poor, orphaned, and effected by war or [genocide]] are vulnerable for the sex trade industry. The industry of human trafficking is an industry that accumulates billions of dollars a year. The innocence of children is being exploited the work of pimps, pornographers, and traffickers. The work of the SOLD project is to continue to help raise awareness and aide the abolition of human slavery.
