The Rock Show is a radio show style podcast, hosted and produced by radio presenter 'Big' Jim Hussell. It features the best music from the rock and heavy metal genres of music, but it's not unheard of for punk and blues tracks to be added to the playlist.
From the outset the show was always going to be a podcast-style presentation, as Jim had no FM outlet for his programming, when Radio Tircoed's fourth stint as an RSL station in December 2006 drew to a close. Throughout all four RSL sessions Jim presented a regular rock and metal show, as well as a Friday evening show called Feelgood Friday, a late drivetime slot to get the weekend started with chart and party music.
The first Rock Show podcast was released on 28 January 2007, and has been published roughly every fortnight since. The show quickly built up an online listenership, through its website, www.therockshow.co.uk, and now has an FM-based audience at 100.3FM Pirate Radio which is based in the Los Angeles bay area. Pirate Radio also has a web-streaming service from its own website, www.kqlz.org, and The Rock Show is a part of the streaming schedule also.
Jim is assisted by Rockbabe, aka Donna Butler, and Roadie, aka Timma Pritch.
Rockbabe has a feature on the show called Rockbabe Recommends, and it's the segment of the show which features material from new and unsigned bands, as well as new material from established stars, and it's all chosen from Rockbabe exclusively for The Rock Show.
Timma The Roadie makes the selections in his feature called Roadie's Buried Tresure. Timma delves into the misty past of rock and metal to unleash hidden gems that you may have missed, or have just missed listening to. The picks he makes are sure to get any red blooded rockers heads a-bangin'!
A fully functional, and free, messageboard linked to the site gives the listeners a chance to request tracks to be played on the show, offer their opinions on the shows and music, and also generally socialise.
There is an RSS feed from the site to the latest show, as well as access to past editions. There is always a recent podcast available for download.
