[edit] History
[edit] The Pages
The Redwalls were originally named The Pages, and the band was formed by brothers Logan and Justin Baren and their longtime friend Andrew Langer. The Pages struggled to find a permanent drummer in its beginning phases. The first drummer to which they recorded their demo was Deerfield High School classmate Matt Pais. With Matt, the band played shows at a local bar named Pops. Upon entering college, Matt left the band and The Pages added drummer Jordan Kozer. With Jordan, the band continued to play small shows. They were originally a cover band that played British invasion rock songs, but they decided to write their own music after a few months. They recorded their first studio album, Universal Blues, on independent label Undertow Music. Before the album was released, Ken Coomer sent a demo of the band to Capitol Records, who signed the band. After recording the album, Kozer decided to attend DePaul University, and The Pages brought in drummer Ben Greeno to replace Kozer.
[edit] The Redwalls
As they were signing with Capitol, the label requested that they change their name to The Redwalls, and the band abided. The band is the second band named The Pages that Capitol Records has changed the name of. The first band changed their name to Mr. Mister. Capitol released their already-finished album on Undertow under the new name. Capitol Records released their follow-up album and major label debut De Nova in June 2005. Their first single, "Thank You," was performed on Late Night with Conan O'Brien on June 21, 2005. They later performed "Build a Bridge" on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. They spent the summers of 2005 and 2006 opening for Oasis, and played at Lollapalooza in both years.
On February 22, 2007, it was reported that the band was dropped from Capitol Records, as a result of the impending merger with Virgin Records.[1] Capitol gave The Redwalls the rights to an album that they recorded in 2006 for free upon the band's dismissal.
After being dropped by Capitol, The Redwalls released a 4-track EP The Wall to Wall Sessions in May 2007. The Redwalls are now signed with Drexel University-based MAD Dragon UNLTD and released their self-titled LP on October 23, 2007.[1][2]
In late 2007, Ben Greeno decided to leave the band and was replaced by drummer Rob Jensen who was previously in Probably Vampires.
Also in 2007, their song "Build A Bridge" was featured on an AT&T commercial, just as the Oasis song "All Around The World" had been earlier in the year.
Contrary to previous rumors, the band is not on hiatus. The group has an East Coast and Midwest tour scheduled for spring 2008.
In late 2007, they released a music video for "Modern Diet," the first single off their self-titled album. The also performed the song on "The Late Show with David Lettermen" on Jan. 23, 2008.
They released their second video from that record, "Game of Love,[2]" in April 2008. The video depicts The Redwalls playing the song in the middle of a roller derby competition. Featuring Chicago's "Windy City Rollers," a female roller derby team, the band ends up causing trouble and getting in a tussle with the tattooed terrors by the end of the song.
Currently The Redwalls are wrapping up a long tour supporting their newest album self titled "The Redwalls". Justin and Logan Baren have confirmed that they have begun writing new songs and after a break will begin tracking a new album this fall. A release date has not been set.
