[edit] About

The Real Estate Wiki is a free privately funded, non-profit, commercial free wiki project similar to Wikipedia that is still in its Beta stage. It is a free online encyclopedia targeted specifically at users needing information on or about the real estate industry. They rely solely on volunteers and advertising of all forms is not accepted.

The Real Estate Wiki was launched in January of 2008 with 7,000 entries and within the first 5 months rose to over 22,000 entries. The wiki was created by a group of real estate professionals, headed by Stefan Swanepoel, who wanted a more central, specific niche encyclopedia for the real estate industry.

[edit] Structure

The basic structure of the site is like any wiki; however, users must register before they can edit any material. It is distinguished by a focus two separate areas:

1) The Consumer Focus area, specifically for consumers, e.g. home buyers, home sellers. This area includes everything from a real estate almanac and home buyer and seller FAQ's to general real estate information.

2) The Industry Focus Area, specifically for real estate professionals e.g real estate agents, investors, mortgage brokers. This area includes everything from government, associations & organizations to people, companies and general industry information.
