Morning. Sandy talks with Trey in the kitchen, when Ryan walks in. Sandy leaves them alone to say their goodbyes, but even though Trey apologizes sincerely, Ryan doesn't care & tells him, "Don't keep Sandy waiting".
Marissa finds Seth & Ryan & tells Ryan they should bring Trey a housewarming gift, byt Ryan is still mad at Trey. Marissa does anyway, & finds that it's Trey's 21st birthday on Saturday.
Carter & Kirsten talk about the first issue of Newport Living on the stands. Kirsten becomes worried that she'll have to explain to Julie that she is no longer on the cover. Julie walks in, surprisingly happy. Kirsten tells Julie about the magazine, & it strangely doesn't affect her.
Marissa goes to Ryan & thinks it would be nice to throw Trey a birthday party. Ryan becomes angry & tells her not to. Marissa says Trey is his brother, & Ryan ends the talk with "If everyone would've let me handle this from the beginning, then none of this would've happened". Ryan tells Marissa to "stop pushing it". Marissa walks away disgusted.
Seth & Zach arrive at Al Forno's to meet "Reed". To their surprise, Reed is a woman, who seems to take a liking to Zach.
Sandy works on a surfboard coffee table at his office when Carter stops by. Carter is looking for legal help because he made publisher Nick Morton look, "sleazy". Sandy accepts the case, & talks Carter into surfing again, where they meet Erin, an pretty orthopedist & a friend of Sandy's. Carter talks with Erin about his surfing, "Today, I mastered hitting myself in the face". There seems to be some attraction between Carter & Erin. Sandy notices this & tells Kirsten they should, you know, set 'em up.
Julie comes into Marissa's room & tells her she came back for the magazine & because she missed Marissa. Suddenly, Julie's phone rings, "Do you have an address?"
Julie arrives at Lance's motel room, & pulls out a gun. She says that in one night, he destroyed a life she spent almost 20 years building, so she's here to kill him. The gun clicks, it's not loaded. She says that for a second, she wanted to feel like his life was being taken away. Lance is shocked.
When Ryan goes to say happy birthday to Trey after Seth convinces him to, they see Trey getting into a "suspicious looking Camaro". They follow him.
Ryan drives to Trey's apartment early in the morning & confronts him about going to buy drugs. Trey says he was with his parole officer tracking down a friend from prison he was worried about. But Ryan still isn't buying it, "You gave him money?" Trey continues, "He asked for five bucks, am I supposed to say no? Guy's livin' in a trash can. God, I was trying to convince him to go to a shelter. That's it, Ry". Ryan goes to leave, Trey thinks it's funny, because when he saw Ryan, he thought he was coming over "to take him out for breakfast for his birthday".
Ryan stops by Marissa's & says he's sorry. Ryan asks for her help in getting Trey to forgive him enough to throw him a birthday party. Marissa has a plan...
Julie receives a package in the mail. It's the tape, & a letter from Lance saying to meet him at a bar. Lance gives Julie every single tape he has. Julie gets drunk, & dances with Lance, & then after finding out that Caleb screwed Lance over, she let's her problems with Caleb slip out. Lance says that getting rid of Caleb, he'll do it. Julie becomes scared.
At dinner, Sandy, Kirsten, Carter & Erin talk, but Kirsten doesn't seem like she's enjoying the night. Suddenly, Sandy receives a call from the kids. It's an emergency. Sandy goes to help the kids & Carter goes to move his car. Kirsten lets Erin know about Carter's divorce & that it's been really hard on him. Erin seems skeptical.
At the party, which has turned into a full-on Nichol Mansion rager, Summer finds that Reed is a woman & becomes mad at Seth. Trey meets a girl named Jess Sathers after defending Seth against Water Polo players. Ryan thanks Marissa for what she's done to help him & Trey. Ryan & Marissa get ready to kiss...bloodcurdiling screams ring out.... Jess had Od'd on drugs & passed out in the pool. Ryan & Marissa rush down to the pool. Seth & someone else carry Jess out of the pool..Jess isn't breathing...
