[edit] Plot summary

Kamoj Argali, governor of an impoverished province on the backward planet Balumil, is betrothed to Jax Ironbridge, ruler of a rich neighboring province. She is everything but happy about her future union with the cruel, brutal man, whom she only intends to wed to save her people from starvation and death. When a mysterious, extremely wealthy stranger Havyrl (Vyrl) Lionstar enforces a marriage with her, she is actually quite glad to escape her rueful fate. She soon starts to fall in love with her strange but kind and caring husband, who is so unlike her former fiancé. But Jax is not going to give up his long promised bride so easily. He kidnaps Kamoj and Vyrl will have a hard time to get his wife back.

When the couple is reunited again, they have one more battle to fight. Vyrl - who is in fact Prince Havyrl Valdoria, member of the powerful Ruby Dynasty which rules the star-spanning Skolian Imperialate - has to return to his home world Lyshriol to rescue his mother and siblings, who are held captive by the Allieds after the Radiance War.
