The Puzzling Puzzles is a spin-off book from A Series of Unfortunate Events. The book takes the form of a training manual for the V.F.D. organization, and is filled with A Series of Unfortunate Events related puzzles. The book follows the continuity of both the books and the film, making references to the spyglasses from the movie and the Sebald Code from the books. Many of the puzzles are impossible or are trick questions; one question shows a black and white picture of a restaurant, then asks about the colour of the maitre d's socks, and another asks how many spyglasses there are, and some are covered up. The entire last page is printed upside-down with the message "If you are a spying villain or a villainous spy, we're sorry to tell you this entire page is a typographical error", before going on to welcome the reader into V.F.D.
[edit] Editions
The book was originally released in 2004 as a promotion for the movie Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events. It was rereleased in the U.S. in 2006 with a new cover (drawn from artwork in The Bad Beginning: Special Edition), sixteen new puzzles, and an additional introduction by R. In the United Kingdom, an edition with the new cover was released in February 2007, but it did not have the extras from the updated U.S. edition.
