The Punisher (Marvel Knights 2000 series)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Punisher, a 12-issue miniseries under the Marvel Knights imprint, is the fifth comic book series featuring the Marvel vigilante character known as The Punisher (Frank Castle). It ran from April 2000 to March 2001.
The series was a revival of a character who had previously been saddled with storylines that followed nearly every action movie cliché. Garth Ennis brought the Punisher back to his basic roots as a character and added in his own dark brand of humor. This series boosted Punisher's popularity, which was low after several previous series that had been poorly received.
The series was collected in the trade paperback Punisher: Welcome Back, Frank, which became the informal series title.
The series is notable for creating several characters that were later used in the 2004 film adaptation of the character: Frank Castle's neighbors (Joan the Mouse, Spacker Dave and Mister Bumpo), and two hitmen sent after him (Harry Heck and the Russian).
