The Public was a rock band that was formed in Central Illinois in 1996 by Zach Crothers, Todd Miller, Bill Keller and Dan Wendt. The band explored rural Southern Illinois, playing in open spaces and farm land before hitting the bar scene in Carbondale. The Public's music was inspired by numerous classic rock and punk bands as well as more recent bands such as Soundgarden, Fugazi and Helmet. The Public disbanded in the spring of 2001.
