The Prophecy of The Stones (published in the UK as The Prophecy of the Gems) is a children's novel written by the French author Flavia Bujor. Written in the course of six months while Flavia was only thirteen, it was translated from French to English, as well as to 30 other languages.

[edit] Plot summary

At the beginning of the story, the three girls of the prophecy are introduced: Jade, an overconfident daughter of the Duke of Divulyon who is used to being spoiled; Amber, an optimistic, loving daughter of a peasant who is too nice for her own good; and Opal, a beautiful, yet cold-hearted girl raised by her two aunts, who seems to have no emotion.

As their fourteenth birthday unfolds, all chaos lets loose. They find their parents aren't their parents, they've been lied to all their lives, and most importantly, that they are to go on a life-changing journey. Before they meet they are told that they are enemies but nevertheless they become closer throughout their quest to discover their destiny with the wisdom of the sorceress Oonagh. All the while they are watched by the evil Council of Twelve, a group of naive, power-hungry old men, and its evil leader, the Thirteenth Councelor who is the combined spirit of those men. Though in this world of little faith, whispers arise of a prophecy written by a man who foresaw the future unrest of this world many centuries ago. The Prophecy promises that three girls, The Stones of the Prophecy, and The Chosen One, will fight against the dark, and lead the world to light.

In between the three girls' story, there lies two tales of The Nameless One, a young man on a quest to remember his forgotten past, and a young girl named Joa (whose name contains the initials of the three girls), who is struggling to fight for her life in a hospital in modern-day Paris, depends on Jade, Opal, and Amber.

Their "parents" are very vague about the task and give little details. All they are given is a small black pouch, and information to meet at a tree. At the tree, they are each told that they will find two other girls, and that these girls, are their enemies.

On arriving at the tree, Jade, Opal, and Amber, first meet, and then seal their fate. From their pouches, they simultaneously pull out three stones: the stones of the prophecy.

It is then that they set out on their journey facing fear-striking vultures, rebellious teens, and even Death herself. Jade, Opal, and Amber each experience their own tough moments on this journey, and they each have their fair amount of changes in character.
