The Prellies
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Prellies are an English beat group known for high energy performances at Beatles festivals around the world, and their appearances in Beatles TV documentaries such as the critically acclaimed Stuart Sutcliffe - The Lost Beatle(BBC) and Beatles Biggest Secrets a documentary about the Beatles in Hamburg, which premiered in England boxing Day 2004 and initially received impressive reviews until it was internationally distributed minus The Prellies soundtrack.
Named after the amphetamine Preludin taken by The Beatles to help keep them playing in Hamburg for hours on end, their repertoire consists purely of songs that The Beatles played from 1957 - 1962 during what is commonly known as the "Hamburg Years". From the outset the band have never performed any songs actually written by The Beatles, a rather curious stance for a band considered by some to be a Beatles tribute band.
This stance allowed them unexpected media exposure in 2003 when American 80's pop icon Tiffany attended one of their Cavern shows. The band were approached with a request by Tiffany to perform I Saw Her Standing There (A hit for Tiffany in 1988) alongside them, but declined on the basis that it was a Beatles song. Apparently Tiffany took this in good spirit and joined the Cavern audience dancing along to the show.

[edit] History
Formed June 15, 2002, their debut concert was at the Casbah Coffee Club in Liverpool, home to Beatles drummer Pete Best. Other than Best himself, they were the first band to appear at the venue forty years after the club originally closed its doors. The band underwent numerous line up changes before arriving at the current formation of Trevor Townsend, Gareth Evans, Chris Henderson, Jules Heath and Adam Hassall.
The Prellies are now recognized as one of the most premier Beatles tribute acts in the world, performing regularly at conventions in Belgium, Spain, Sweden, France, Belarus and America and headlining each year at the Liverpool Beatles convention in England.
