The Powder Kegs are an old-timey/bluegrass band consisting of Ryan Dieringer (Bass/Vocals), Jake Hoffman (Piano/Organ/Banjo/Vocals), Daniel Maroti Guitars/Ladle/Vocals), Sam McDougle (Guitar/Fiddle), and Pete Winne (Slide Guitar/Harmonica/Vocals).

The band formed in 2006 while Jake, Sam, and Pete were attending Vassar College. Sam soon invited his old friends Dan, who was attending the University of Vermont and Ryan, who was attending Dartmouth College to join the band.
The band is known for their frequent busking and high-energy live show.
Recently, the band were the winners of A Prairie Home Companion's People in Their Twenties Talent Contest, which was featured on the show on April 21, 2007.
